Things to Do in the Southern Islands of Florida
Sanibel is mostly known for its beaches and wildlife. The beautiful white sand as well as its overabundance of seashells and shelling, makes this island a relaxing vacation spot. One of the most popular beaches on the island is the Lighthouse Beach, which, as you probably suspected, is home to a picturesque lighthouse. Besides the beaches, another fact to know is that over half of the island is comprised of wildlife refuges. Anyone who enjoys seeing animals thriving in their native habitats will love Sanibel Island, Florida. ÂCaptiva Island, though connected by bridge, couldn"t be more different in atmosphere. Captivia is considered more upscale and exclusive than its island twin. While it is said Indians, pirates, and conquistadors once roamed the island, you are more likely to see golfers, fishermen and tennis pros roaming it today. This island is home to fabulous restaurants, shopping, and hotels.  Â
What else is there to do on these islands? More than you will even be able to pack into your vacation, no matter how long! Start by enjoying the beaches on both islands by way of swimming, snorkeling, boating, shelling, or just getting a righteous tan. Captiva, FL is home to Yolo Watersports, which will have you using wave runners or even taking in the sky views by way of parasailing.  Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is not to be missed, as well as a stop at the ð€˜Tween Waters Marina.
Sanibel offers even more to do. Why not head over to the Island Cruise Line and take a day trip around the island where you can enjoy dolphin watching and scuba diving. Another perk of the cruise line is that it takes you to Cayo Costa, which is a start park of Florida that you can only get to by way of a boat. This gives you the opportunity for the best seashell findings in the area. You can also try to improve your backswing at the Beachview Golf and Tennis Club before heading back to the Sanibel Island Hotels for a wonderful middle of the day vacation nap. Â
