Paris Vacation Apartments Offer Insider Insights

After all, Paris is one of those rare destinations where sophistication is a way of life, regardless of budget. Who hasnt read HemingwaysҠA Moveable FeastҠand longed to recapture the romance of just sitting in one of the countless cafөs lining the avenues and grand boulevards of the city, sipping a cup of cafө au lait and talking about art? Or doing more than simply visiting the postcard-ready landmarks, but really digging in and exploring the places most tourists avoid but that the locals adore?

Staying in a vacation apartment gives you access to all of that, affording you an interaction with the locals that you just cant get when youre staying in a hotel. Once you have the building access code, it seems as if you are afforded entry into a whole new level of Paris.Ҡ

Dick and Demaris Mills learned this during a visit a few years ago, when they inadvertently locked themselves out of their apartment. The buildings concierge wasnt available until the next morning, leaving the Mills temporarily homeless. A neighbor, one theyd never even met before, handed them the key to her apartment and asked only that they not let the cats out.Ҡ

The Mills had been visiting Paris for many years, enjoying stays at some of the citys most luxurious hotels. But the Francophiles realized that to experience the real Paris, they had to live like the locals. So, five years ago, they made the switch to apartments.Ҡ

Likewise, Sam Spektor and his wife Ann have become apartment converts, although their reasons are more practical. We didnt want to have to eat all our meals in restaurants, explains Mr. Spektor. We wanted to shop and cook some meals at ˜home. We also wanted more space than a hotel room gave us, and didnt want the ˜hassle of a hotel.Ҡ

Those hassles include things like room service and housekeeping, deal-breakers for some travelers, as is access to spas or fitness facilities. The idea of being without them prevent more than a few travelers from considering a vacation apartment.Ҡ

Erica Berman, owner of Haven in Paris, says vacation apartment dwellers dont have to go without those luxuries.Ҡ

It really depends on the type of experience youre looking for, says Berman, an American who splits her time between Europe and the States. We provide housekeeping service once a week, but if a guest wants the apartment straightened up more often, we can do that, too, for an extra charge. We also give our guests a listing of some services they can bring into the apartment, like massage therapists, personal cooks and yoga instructors. Berman adds that these are things hotels would also offer as an a la carte service, but the advantage here is that you can enjoy these things in a private, spacious apartment.Ҡ

Bermans company offers over two-dozen apartments throughout Paris, ranging from cozy studios to lavish three-bedroom penthouses. Guests are met at the apartment by a greeter, a person who gives them the keys, shows them the apartment and how to work some of the more unfamiliar appliances.Ҡ

I have greeters wholl even take the client into the market and show them how to shop for food, says Berman. Thats something you just cant get by staying in a hotel. She adds that her apartments all have computers with free high-speed WiFi and free unlimited calls to the U.S. (and Europe).

So what about cost? Thats the question people often ask when planning their visit. Is it more economical to stay in an apartment? The answer is, usually.

If youre traveling with your family or a group, it can certainly cost you less to rent a multi-bedroom apartment than several hotels rooms. Eating at restaurants every day, three times a day, can add up, so cooking and eating in saves money.

But most people who stay in apartments during their Paris vacation arent necessarily out to save significant money. That might just be the bonus.ҠҠWhen asked, most people will cite the fact that an apartment gives them more space as a big draw. But Ellen Cull sums up the main reason vacation apartments were a great choice for her: It was like having a home away from home.

Accomodation - Avoid These Scams and Pitfalls

If you travel independently you will spend a significant time trying to find a place to stay. Here are some tips in order to avoid running into problems at your accommodation:

The Importance of Nautical Almanacs and Cruising Guide for Mariners

Since man first invented the floating craft, celestial bodies have been used as reliable navigation guides for mariners and sea-going adventurers. Primitive societies did not have sophisticated equipment and gadgets to guide their way during a long seaҠ voyage. They used celestial bodies as points of reference when they traveled by sea. Fortunately today, there are lots of gadgets and equipment that can be used for sea travel. You can also get a copy of the Nautical Almanac which is a major reference for mariners in identifying celestial bodies. Even if you are just cruising along Belize and the coast of Mexico, you still need charts and the Almanac so you will not get lost at sea. The Nautical Almanac is officially published by the United States Naval Observatory. Only one publisher, the Paradise Cay Publications, is legally mandated to publish the Nautical Almanac. Fortunately, you can get a copy of the 2009 edition of the almanac from Seabreeze Nautical Books and Charts in San Diego. The 2009 Nautical Almanac that you can buy from Seabreeze bookstore contains the exact data and information that you can find from the almanac published by the United States government. So you are assured that you can get accurate, factual, and precise descriptions and locations of different celestial bodies for navigation at sea. If you have this book, you will never lose your way when you travel by sea. The Almanac is the major cornerstone of all celestial navigation. It has a complete listing of all stars and constellations that are used to guide your way while at sea. Aside from the locations of different celestial bodies, the Almanac also provides valuable information, guides, and tools for all offshore navigators and mariners. So you should ensure that you have a copy of the Almanac before you leave any port. You have to know how to read the celestial bodies because your equipment and gadgets such as GPS can fail at anytime. Without your electronic maritime gadgets, you will sail blindly and this can be very dangerous. But if you know how to read the celestial bodies, then you can safely find land and not lose your way at sea. Aside from the 2009 Nautical Almanac, you should also have a copy of the Belize and Mexico cruising guide. This maritime guide comes in book format. You can also purchase this navigation manual for Belize and Mexico cruising from Seabreeze Nautical Books and Charts. Specifically, the Cruising Guide to Belize and Mexicos Caribbean has 133 pages of map sketches, aerial photograph of the entire area, and map guide. The Belize Mexico cruising manual also provides valuable information about great offshore and inland tourist sites, dive spots, and historical places. So you will have a complete cruise manual if you get a copy of this book. Being a mariner is not a simple job. You need to grasp the essentials of navigation and become familiar with the celestial bodies for guiding your trip. You need not start from scratch because you can easily get a Nautical Almanac and cruising guides and charts from Seabreeze bookstore.
